Ailsa - Psychologist


Originally from Sydney, Ailsa studied psychology at the University of Tasmania and the Queensland University of Technology before commencing her career working for NSW Health in drug and alcohol, adult mental health, and sexual assault. She volunteered for Lifeline and Radio Lollipop at the Mater Children’s Hospital while studying in Brisbane.

Ailsa adopts a holistic Humanistic perspective and utilises a biopsychosocial practice model. She works with individuals across the lifespan and has particular skills in trauma-related therapies, domestic violence, mindfulness, relaxation and self-compassion. Therapeutic interventions are tailored to meet the needs of individuals and include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Exposure Therapy.

Ailsa is skilled in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, personality and mood disorders, and trauma/stressor-related disorders such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is interested in health psychology and working with individuals experiencing pain issues.

Ailsa works in Dubbo but has provided an outreach service to Western NSW towns such as Lightning Ridge, Walgett, Goodooga, Collarenebri, Narromine, Wellington and Warren for several years. This extensive outreach work has provided her with an opportunity to work collaboratively with the Aboriginal community as well as local health and community services.

Ailsa’s passion for education has seen her deliver the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) Love Bites Respectful Relationships Education Program (Junior and Senior) to rural and remote schools for many years. She finds her role as a NAPCAN facilitator particularly rewarding and enjoys working closely with local service providers such as Mission Australia.

Ailsa is able to administer, interpret results and provide reports for a range of instruments and measures including IQ tests, Personality and Memory tests plus self- report questionnaires.

Ailsa is a registered provider with Medicare and is an Associative Member of the Australian Psychological Society.
