Men's Health Week

It is Men's Health Week and we have spent some time deep diving into the literature outlining men's health and where we as a nation are sitting regarding men's health. Of course there have been some improvements with early diagnosis of diseases, as we raise more awareness, but we have a bit to go. As we worked through the resources out there we came across this. We liked its simplicity and thought we would share it with you.

  1. Men die 6 years younger than women - the biggest killers being heart disease and cancer.

  2. 4 in 5 heart deaths under 65 are men - Men aged 45-54 are nearly 5 times more likely to die from heart disease than women. The risk of heart disease increases with age

  3. 1 in 3 men die of cancer - One way to beat cancer is to catch it early. That means regular check ups with your GP and if you notice anything different talk to your doctor.

  4. 3 in 4 suicides are men  - One thing we can all do to prevent suicide is learn how to talk to our mates about it. Have a look at RUOK’s #Manspeak videos if you want to find out more.

  5. 93% workplace deaths are men - 72% of work-related disease, 2 in 3 serious claims for workers compensation

In light of the above, here are 5 things we know NOT to do:

  1. Don’t smoke

  2. Don’t drink too much

  3. Don’t eat sh**t

  4. Don’t sit around too much

So what should we do??

  1. Really do RELAX

  2. Really do BE SOCIAL

  3. Really do HELP OTHERS

  4. Really do BE ACTIVE

  5. Really do WHAT YOU LOVE

If in doubt, talk to an expert!

We found this at the Australian Health Mens Forum. It has some great resources, check it out #knowyourman.
