Why have we hired teachers?

You may have seen our recent posts announcing that we were hiring a Teacher to join the Macquarie Health Collective team. This may seem like an unusual thing to do as a health practice, but it is something we are really excited about!

We have hired two teachers to join our team and work alongside our providers, particularly our Psychologists. The teachers will help to bridge the gap between our team and our local schools. The teachers can assist with passing information back and forth between our team and the teachers supporting the children we are working with, so that we can make sure everyone is completely on the same page.

When a Psychologist (or other provider) makes recommendations, the teachers can then explain how this can be done practically in a school environment, in a way that actually works for schools, given their detailed knowledge of the education system (which we as health providers do not always have!)

Further to this, not only will they be able to translate our health jargon into practical strategies for schools, they can then assist with actually implementing them! The teacher will be able to go into schools to assist with setting up or implementing the strategies and programs needed to support the child at school.

We know our schools are filled with so many amazing teachers and Learning Support Teams, but we also know how stretched they are! We are hopeful that this service can help to provide a really useful “top-up” resource to support schools, and particularly, to support the kids in our community.

We see this as an extra step we can take to help support our kids to really thrive at school!
